HIVbase 2004 requires

• Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP (XP service pack 2 is recommended)
• 256 MB RAM (512 MB is strongly recommended)
• 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4 processor or better
• The Microsoft .NET platform version 1.1 (service pack 1 is recommended)
• 10MB of free hard drive space (this will provide enough space for a large database with many annotations)
• Internet access (optional for automatic registration and activation)

NEW Installation Instructions

1. Make sure you have the Microsoft .NET platform installed PRIOR to installing HIVbase. The setup will fail without it. From the START menu, go to the control panel and select "Add / Remove Programs" and check for "Microsoft .NET Framework". If the .NET framework is not listed, you can download it from Microsoft at: MICROSOFT .NET PLATFORM DOWNLOAD
2. Download the "Complete Installation" *.zip folder from the download page.
3. Extract the contents of the *.zip folder and select "HIVbase Setup Step1. Follow the instructions provided during the installation.
4. Run "HIVbase Setup Step2" from the same folder as above.
5. As soon as you have completed the installation, start the application
6. Input the license key information (if you have purchased a license) or select to use trial version
7. IMMEDIATELY go to the 'HELP' menu and select "check for updates" to make sure you start with the most up-to-date region definitions,
8. The update script may take a few minutes depending on the size of your database.

UPGRADE Installation

• The upgrade installer assumes that the .NET platform and the prior version of HIVbase have not been removed.
• Download the UPGRADE zip file to your desktop.
• Open the upgrade zip file and run SETUP.exe

Converting data from your prior version of HIVbase

• As soon as you have completed the installation run the data conversion script from the installation folder.
• The conversion may take a few minutes, depending on how many sequences and annotations you have in the system
• IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE CONVERSION - start the application, go to the 'HELP' menu, and select "check for updates"
• The update script may take a few minutes depending on the size of your database.
